Available in two sizes: about 7" (175mm) and 10" (250mm) tall (Generic picture shows both sizes and styles) and two styles: traditional (Mary holding baby Jesus Product A) and the unique rare style with Joseph holding baby Jesus whilst Mary prays (Product B). Photographs are generic.

The 7" (175mm) traditional style sells for more than $100 in the USA and Europe, we are able to offer them at moderate prices by contracting directly with Tamokcub at fair trade prices. A notarized Certificate of Authenticity and Origin that also includes artist picture and short résumé and assessed value for insurance purposes is available. Write yes or "y" in the box titled " Certificate", a $20 fee is charged to cover notarization and other costs.

All nativities start out as raw soapstone quarried in the Tabaka region of Kenya. The soapstone varies in color from white (the easiest to carve) through various shades of pink to a deep lustrous red (the most difficult to carve) and gray. The stone is rough-cut then shaped by Tamokcub co-op members. The abstract shape, natural stone colors, and detail of the finished nativity are very imaginative and unique to these Kenyan artists. The impoverished sculptors and their assistants live a hand-to-mouth existence. The talented people welcome special and wholesale orders.

These unusual and original examples of African talent and art are unique in that no two are the same, however, similar the style and size. Being handcrafted from natural materials some minor imperfections may be anticipated that add rather than detract from the beauty of the nativity. The actual set you receive will be similar to those pictured with slight variations in size, design, and shape depending on the sculptor; color, however, could vary from almost white through cream, pale gray, pale pink to dark red or gray. Currently, only light colors are available. Your satisfaction is guaranteed! NB The nativities are very popular and in great demand by collectors. They are often sold out, the number available will read backordered instead of a quantity when that happens. A similar nativity i.e. color, size, design or pattern can be ordered (click on the backordered link for details) and usually takes four to eight weeks.
