The handcrafted 12"Ø (305mm) African savannah antelope scene decorative round plate carved out of Kisii soapstone makes a great home décor accent. It displays beautifully as a stand-alone decorative plate, on a display stand (as pictured), or a wall plate. Each plate is an original work of art that you will be proud to own or gift. Photgraph is the actual plate you will receive i.e. WYSIWYG.
These unusual and original examples of African talent and art are unique in that no two are the same, however, similar the style and size. Usually selling for more than $80 in the USA and Europe, we are able to offer them at moderate prices by contracting directly with Tamokcub at fair trade prices.
All plates start out as raw soapstone quarried in the Tabaka region of Kenya. The soapstone varies in color from white (the easiest to carve) through various shades of pink to a deep lustrous red (the most difficult to carve). The stone is rough-cut then shaped by Tamokcub co-op members. The artist designs the scene and daubs various dyes to color the scene. They then etch the outlines to expose the natural soapstone. The detail of the finished plate is very creative and unique to these Kenyan artists.
NBThe plates are very popular and in great demand by collectors. They are often sold out, the number available will read backordered instead of a quantity when that happens. A similar plate size, design, or pattern can be ordered (click on the backordered link for details) and takes six to eight weeks. If backorder not wanted, remove the item/s from the shopping cart or at checkout.
