The unique 3-5" (75-126mm) set of hand carved soapstone duck, guinea fowl, fish, owl, and tortoise are from Manzini, Swaziland. Carved from a solid piece of soapstone (steatite) the carvings are finished by polishing and dying then etching some detail. Can be purchased individually. Makes an excellent home décor or ornament and an unique gift for almost anyone. Made in Swaziland under the supervision of Nomvula (Patience) Tfwala of Zanyana Handicrafts (Swaziland and South Africa), similar artifacts sell for $40 each or $200/set in the USA. We are able to offer them at moderate prices by contracting directly with the carvers at fair trade prices.
No two carvings, however similar in style, even by the same artist, are the same; each one is an original, unique, museum quality work of art. Being handcrafted from natural materials some minor imperfections may be anticipated that add rather than detract from the beauty of the carvings.
All pictures are generic; if you would like to select the carving you are buying and quantity is two or more write 'yes' or 'y' in the box titled Send options. A small administration fee to cover labor will apply and photographs of what is available will be sent to you for your selection.
