The beautiful, one-of-a-kind, limited 2008 series of fine art stone pair of giraffe sculptures by Marondeyeri Shona stone sculptor co-op member, Edias Tafadzwa of Chitungwezi, Zimbabwe. Hand sculptured from Verdite, not only one of the very hardest natural (green) stone medium to carve but also famous for being the oldest rock on the planet. Usually selling for more than $500 in USA, Asian and European art galleries, we are able to offer them at moderate prices by contracting directly with Marondeyeri co-op at fair trade prices.  These talented and world famous Shona sculptors produce wonderful original works of art that become family one-of-a-kind heirlooms. No two sculptures, however, similar the style and size, are the same.

All giraffe pairs start out as raw Verdite stone. The stone is rough-cut by hand using hammer and chisel by Edias and his apprentices. He then shapes and details the sculpture by machine, a delicate operation considering the thinness of the legs relative to the pressure required to carve the stone. A final wax polish is applied to the smooth finish by the apprentices after many hours of hand sanding with fine to very fine water paper. Edias then etches the final hide markings, initials, numbers, and dates the sculpture.The shape and detail of the finished pair of giraffes is a stunning work of art that you will be proud to own or gift.

Being handcrafted from natural materials some minor imperfections may be anticipated that add rather than detract from the beauty of the sculpture. Photographs A through C show three views of the actual sculpture you will receive. If you would prefer your sculpture to be finished like the generic photograph, i.e. the markings are subtle and polished write yes in the box titled Markings. We will re-polish and ship the sculpture without the prominent etched hide marking details as sent by Edias and shown in the WYSIWYG pictures.

Included with the sculpture is a certificate of authenticity and origin notarized by a professional geologist. A small administration fee to cover labor will apply and a hard copy will be included with the package and/or sent electronically.
