Shona sculptures impress, stimulate, and inspire. The sculptor, Oliver Jonah and his team at St. Mary's, Chitungwezi near Harare, carved the beautiful "Big Five" sculpture from a solid piece or raw soapstone (steatite) known locally as Rapoko. He skillfully captured and detailed Africa's famous big five (Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhinoceros). His painstaking attention to detail will be appreciated and admired by all who see the sculpture. The elephant tusks are sun dried bovine or giraffe bone. This magnificent example of the Shona talent often sells for more than $350 in USA, EU, and Asian art galleries. We are able to offer them at moderate prices by contracting directly with the sculptor at fair trade prices. A notarized certificate of authenticity, origin, and appraised value is available for a small additional charge and recommended for insurance purposes. Type 'yes' in box next to CoAuthenticity $20.00 if you want a certificate.
Admired by Picasso and many other artists and sculptors, many critics view Shona sculptors to be the world’s current era of greatest rock artists and sculptors. Being hand carved from raw stone, no two Big Five sculptures, however similar, by the same sculptor are identical. he authenticates his working by signing "O. Jona" purposely leaving off the 'H'.
Photographs are the actual sculpture you will receive i.e. WYSIWYG. Expanded description of the generic picture.
