The sculptor carved the 4-6” (100-150mm) tall abstract stone sculpture from a solid piece or raw steatite (soapstone) known locally as rapoko. They skillfully capture and enshrine the majesty and mystique of the world’s largest land mammal. This magnificent example of the Shona talent often sells for more than $100 in USA, EU, and Asian art galleries. We are able to offer them at moderate prices by contracting directly with the sculptors from Masvingo Co-op, Zimbabwe at fair trade prices.

Admired by Picasso and many other artists and sculptors, many critics view Shona sculptors to be the world’s current era of greatest rock artists and sculptors. Being hand carved from raw stone, no two sculptures, however similar, are identical.
