These beautiful, faux ebony penholders were hand-carved in Malawi from exotic sustainable and renewable wood sources. Polished black to resemble Africa’s famous ebony wood these unique examples of African talent and art usually sell for around $20 in the USA and Europe. We are able to offer them at moderate prices by contracting directly with the Malawian artisans at fair trade prices.
Comfortable to write with, the pen uses a standard BIC-type ‘Ultra’ ballpoint insert that is easy to change. With care, the pen will last a lifetime provided similar refills are available. The fine detail of the pen is very imaginative and common for African carvers. Being hand carved, no two pens are alike and will have slight variations in shape, style, and size from the generic listing photographs but only to the keenest observer. Satisfaction guaranteed!
Excellent gift for friends, family, young, and old, especially students and teachers and that person whom is hard to buy for irrespective of the occasion. For you it will be an attractive writing decoration or artifact and stimulating conversational piece at home and the office. Without a doubt, a great addition for an African, ethnic, or cultural theme décor at home or the office.
The 6” to 8” (150-200mm) long, ¾" tapering to ¼” (20-6mm) diameter pens finished by painting or polishing black for an ebony-like appearance are a common souvenir carving with no ceremonial use or significance. Hand carved from exotic tree woods such as mango, jacaranda, or saligna gum (Eucalyptus saligna) from commercial orchards and plantations, tree cutting services, and exotic plant removal programs. The sustainable and renewable wood source lessens the impact on ebony forests that are decimated due to demand for carvings in this medium.
