They also source them from similar co-ops in neighboring Uganda and Tanzania. Modeled after ancient wood dolls believed to bring fertility to a barren woman. We have no data to support the reputed ‘fertility’ powers, but who knows what may happen?

Polished black to resemble Africa’s famous ebony wood these unique examples of African talent and art are available in five heights, from 5" (125mm) to 9" (225mm) tall. Being hand carved, no two pairs are identical. The pair you will receive could have very slight variations in shape, style, and size from the pair in the generic catalog photograph. For all intents and purposes the slight variations are immaterial and your pair will be as beautiful or better than the catalog. We guarantee you will be satisfied with your purchase!

The raw material is sourced from commercial orchards and plantations, tree cutting services, and alien plant removal programs. The typical exotic trees are commonly mango, jacaranda, or saligna gum (Eucalyptus saligna). These trees yield light colored, high strength, fine-grained softwoods make an excellent wood carving medium. Using sustainable and renewable wood resources lessens the impact on ebony forests that are decimated due to demand for carvings in this medium and help preserve the environment.
