Jambo Moyo, a talented Shona sculptor in exile in South Africa donated this magnificent fine art African Bull Elephant that he sculptured in Wonderstone to raise funds for the people suffering back home (Zimbabwe). The color of the stone is grey and when polished it has a beautiful high gloss finish and turns from grey to black with the application of wax. The tusks are carved from sun dried cattle bone to look like real ivory.

Not many artists carve this medium and consequently sculptures in Wonderstone are rare and highly prized by discerning art collectors. The signed piece comes with a certificate of origin and authenticity. Similar works sell for more than US$2000 in USA, EU, and Asian art galleries.

Physical Data and Dimensions:

The raw stone came from a deposit at Ottosdal (only place) in South Africa where the unique gray colored pyrophyllite is mined. Pyrophyllite is commonly known as ‘Wonderstone’´. It has a very fine grain construction and measures 2-3 on the moh scale. The composition of the stone is compressed volcanic ash, is inert, and is famous for not being a conductor of heat or electricity.
